PARGY-LAD, or 6-propynyl-6-nor-LSD, is a lysergamide in which the N6-methyl group of LSD is replaced by a propargyl substituent. The compound was described in Alexander Shulgin’s TiHKAL and is included in chemical monitoring lists, but published compound-specific pharmacology is extremely limited. No modern receptor-binding study or controlled human trial has established its effects.
Chemistry and identification
PARGY-LAD is also called N-propynyl-nor-LSD or N,N-diethyl-6-propargyl-6-norlysergamide. The propynyl group contains a carbon-carbon triple bond and is attached at the N6 position of the ergoline structure. This distinguishes it from PRO-LAD, which has a saturated propyl group, and AL-LAD, which has an allyl group.
International monitoring literature lists PARGY-LAD among the N6-substituted lysergamides. Its structure is also included in comparative tables of substances reported in new psychoactive substance databases (NPS.Finder lysergamide monitoring review, 2021).
Pharmacology and reported effects
There are no published compound-specific receptor affinity or functional efficacy measurements for PARGY-LAD in the sources reviewed here. Its structural relationship to LSD and other N6-substituted lysergamides does not establish that it has the same potency or duration.
Descriptions in TiHKAL are based on historical personal observations rather than controlled clinical research. These anecdotes are the main source of information about its effects in humans. No clinical study has confirmed a characteristic subjective profile.
Research limitations
Human pharmacokinetics, metabolism, acute toxic range, dependence potential and long-term effects have not been adequately studied. PARGY-LAD is therefore much less characterised than LSD, AL-LAD or LSZ. Comparisons with those compounds rest on structure or historical accounts, not demonstrated pharmacological equivalence.
Related lysergamides
PARGY-LAD is related to PRO-LAD, AL-LAD, ETH-LAD and LSD. All are N6-substituted lysergamides, but the propynyl group gives PARGY-LAD a distinct structure.
