NB-5-MeO-MiPT

NB-5-MeO-MiPT, also known as 5-MeO-MiPT BOC or NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT, is an N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-protected derivative of 5-MeO-MiPT. A Boc group is attached to the indole nitrogen, while the parent tryptamine retains its 5-methoxy group and N-methyl-N-isopropyl side chain. The compound appeared in online listings in 2022. A laboratory report has confirmed the identity of one tested sample, but its pharmacology and effects in humans remain uncharacterised.

Chemistry and identification

NB-5-MeO-MiPT is the N-Boc derivative of 5-MeO-MiPT. The abbreviation “NB” in this name refers to the Boc-protected nitrogen, not to an N-benzyl substituent. The Boc group is a tert-butoxycarbonyl protecting group commonly used in organic synthesis to temporarily modify an amine or ring nitrogen.

An AIPSIN monitoring bulletin from August 2022 recorded the appearance of 5-MeO-MiPT BOC in online listings, including an oxalate salt. It provided the proposed chemical structure and described the substance as a protected derivative of 5-MeO-MiPT (AIPSIN, Issue 32, 2022).

Analytical confirmation

A 2023 report from Kykeon Analytics documented analysis of a sample labelled NB-5-MeO-MiPT hydrochloride. The laboratory reported identification by LC-MS and NMR and a measured purity above 98%. This is useful evidence that the named compound was present in that particular sample, but the report is not a pharmacological study and does not establish the quality or composition of other products sold under the same name (Kykeon Analytics, analytical report, 2023).

Relationship to 5-MeO-MiPT

The main structural difference from 5-MeO-MiPT is the Boc group attached to the indole nitrogen. This modification can alter physicochemical properties and receptor interactions. The presence of a protecting group does not, by itself, prove that the compound will release the parent tryptamine after exposure.

Market-monitoring material relayed vendor claims that the Boc group could be removed by strong heating. These are reports of a proposed thermal conversion, not findings from a controlled pharmacological or human metabolism study. They do not establish that the compound behaves as a prodrug after ordinary biological exposure.

Pharmacology

No direct receptor-binding or functional assay for NB-5-MeO-MiPT was identified in the scientific literature reviewed here. There are no compound-specific data establishing its activity at 5-HT2A, 5-HT1A or other serotonin receptors.

Studies of 5-MeO-MiPT itself cannot be treated as studies of the Boc-protected derivative. The parent compound has been examined in receptor and metabolism research, but those findings do not show whether NB-5-MeO-MiPT is converted to it in the body.

Reported effects and clinical evidence

No controlled human study or analytically confirmed clinical case series has established the subjective effects of NB-5-MeO-MiPT. User reports are limited and often assume that the compound releases 5-MeO-MiPT. Without direct evidence of conversion, those descriptions cannot confidently be attributed to the protected molecule.

Toxicology and research limitations

Human pharmacokinetics, metabolism, acute toxic range, dependence potential and long-term effects remain unknown. The 2023 analytical report confirms the identity of one sample, but does not address biological activity or safety.

The most important unanswered question is whether the Boc group is removed under biologically relevant conditions. Until direct metabolic studies are available, NB-5-MeO-MiPT should be described as a protected derivative with an uncharacterised pharmacological profile, rather than as a confirmed prodrug of 5-MeO-MiPT.

Related tryptamines

NB-5-MeO-MiPT is related to 5-MeO-MiPT and NB-5-MeO-DALT. The two NBoc compounds share the same type of indole nitrogen protection, but their terminal nitrogen substituents differ.
