NB-5-MeO-MiPT, also known as 5-MeO-MiPT BOC or NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT, is a protected derivative of the tryptamine 5-MeO-MiPT. The “NB” shorthand refers to an N-tert-butoxycarbonyl (N-Boc) group attached to the indole nitrogen; it does not mean that the compound is N-benzylated. It appeared in online research-chemical listings in 2022, but there is almost no published research on its pharmacology or effects in humans.

Chemistry

NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT retains the 5-methoxytryptamine structure and the N-methyl-N-isopropyl side chain of 5-MeO-MiPT. The indole nitrogen is protected by a tert-butoxycarbonyl group. This modification distinguishes it from the parent compound, commonly known as Moxy.

Although the abbreviated name may resemble the N-benzyl nomenclature used for NBOMe compounds, NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT is not an NBOMe. It is a Boc-protected tryptamine and belongs to a different chemical group.

Relationship to 5-MeO-MiPT

5-MeO-MiPT is a substituted tryptamine with serotonergic psychedelic effects. NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT is its protected derivative. Secondary descriptions have proposed that the Boc group may be removed under sufficiently energetic conditions, but there are no controlled studies establishing the conversion, its extent or the resulting human exposure.

The compound was included in a 2022 report on recently identified psychoactive substances, which documented its appearance as a new research-chemical product. The report contains no clinical description of its effects or toxicological assessment (Yurchenko and colleagues, 2022).

Pharmacology and reported effects

No published receptor-binding or functional study has established the pharmacology of NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT. The known effects of 5-MeO-MiPT cannot be assumed to apply to the protected compound, because the Boc group changes the structure and may affect its ability to interact with biological targets.

There are no reliable human reports from which to describe visual, cognitive, emotional or physical effects. Claims that NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT produces the same psychedelic experience as 5-MeO-MiPT remain unverified.

Toxicity and research limitations

No clinical case series, human metabolism study or controlled toxicity assessment has been published for NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT. Its stability, metabolism, possible conversion to 5-MeO-MiPT and acute toxic effects are not established.

Information about 5-MeO-MiPT itself offers no direct evidence about NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT. The available literature is currently limited to chemical identification and descriptions of its appearance on the research-chemical market.

Related compounds

NBoc-5-MeO-MiPT is related to 5-MeO-MiPT and NB-5-MeO-DALT. Both NBoc derivatives have a protected indole nitrogen, but differ in the substitution of the side-chain amine.
