MiPT

MiPT, or N-methyl-N-isopropyltryptamine, is a synthetic tryptamine related to DMT. It has an unsubstituted indole ring and one methyl and one isopropyl group attached to the terminal nitrogen. Laboratory work has examined its interactions with monoamine transporters, while crystallographic studies have confirmed the structure of its fumarate salt. A complete human pharmacological profile has not been established.

Chemistry and identification

MiPT is N-isopropyl-N-methyl-2-(1H-indol-3-yl)ethanamine. Its side chain distinguishes it from DMT, DET and DiPT. It is also separate from MiPLA, which is a lysergamide despite the similar abbreviation.

The fumarate salt of MiPT was characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction in 2019. The study described the protonated tryptammonium structure and the hydrogen-bonding network within the crystal (Chadeayne and colleagues, 2019).

Transporter pharmacology

A 2009 study examined MiPT alongside DMT, DPT and DiPT. The compounds inhibited serotonin uptake through the plasma-membrane serotonin transporter and also interacted with the vesicular monoamine transporter. The authors interpreted the pattern of uptake inhibition and transporter binding as consistent with substrate behaviour rather than simple reuptake blockade (Cozzi and colleagues, 2009).

This study did not provide a full receptor-binding profile for MiPT. Findings from 4-HO-MiPT or 5-MeO-MiPT cannot be assumed to apply directly to the unsubstituted compound.

Reported effects and human evidence

Human descriptions are mostly anecdotal. They are not supported by a substantial controlled clinical literature, and there is no well-established account of the compound’s pharmacokinetics or duration. Its transporter activity demonstrates a biological effect, without fully explaining the subjective experience or clinical response.

Toxicology and research limitations

No robust human case series has established MiPT’s acute toxic range, dependence potential or long-term effects. The available evidence consists mainly of in-vitro transporter experiments, chemical characterisation and descriptive reports.

Related tryptamines

MiPT is related to DMT, MET, MPT, 4-HO-MiPT and 5-MeO-MiPT. Its methyl-isopropyl side chain distinguishes it from the other unsubstituted dialkyltryptamines.
